Scope of Practice
What is in your scope as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)?
1
As a Certified Personal Trainer, my scope of practice includes designing and coaching safe, effective, evidence-based exercise programs for generally healthy individuals and those cleared for physical activity.
This includes:
Strength training, cardiovascular conditioning, and mobility training
Teaching proper exercise technique and movement patterns
Program design tailored to individual goals, fitness level, and lifestyle
Coaching for consistency, habit-building, and long-term adherence
Modifying exercises for comfort, confidence, and progression
Supporting overall physical fitness, performance, and quality of life
I work within established fitness guidelines and collaborate with healthcare providers when clients have medical conditions or special considerations outside my scope
What is in your scope as a NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES)?
2
As a Corrective Exercise Specialist, my scope of practice focuses on movement quality, muscular balance, and foundational stability to help clients move more efficiently and comfortably.
This includes:
Assessing posture, movement patterns, and common muscular imbalances
Identifying overactive and underactive muscle groups using movement assessments
Designing corrective exercise strategies to improve alignment, stability, and mobility
Supporting joint health and movement confidence during fitness training
Integrating corrective strategies into strength and conditioning programs
Helping clients reduce compensation patterns and improve movement efficiency
Corrective exercise is not medical diagnosis or rehabilitation and it is not physical therapy. I do not diagnose injuries or treat pathology, pain, or known medical conditions. I refer out to physical therapists or medical professionals when appropriate. If you have a past or present injury or a known medical condition like arthritis or osteoporosis, we’ll connect with your doctor and care team prior to beginning any dynamic assessments or program design.
What is in your scope as a NASM Certified Nutrition Coach (CNS)?
3
As a Certified Nutrition Coach, my scope of practice includes providing general, evidence-based nutrition education and behavior-change coaching to support overall health, performance, and lifestyle goals.
This includes:
Nutrition education aligned with national dietary guidelines
Coaching on balanced meals, macronutrients, hydration, and fueling for activity
Supporting sustainable habits around eating, planning, and consistency
Helping clients navigate nutrition for energy, recovery, and body composition
Addressing mindset, routine, and practical barriers to healthy eating
Encouraging informed, flexible, and realistic nutrition choices
I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions, prescribe therapeutic diets, or provide medical nutrition therapy. Clients with medical conditions are referred to a registered dietitian or healthcare provider.
